Houston had the Free Thought Convention too.
Our meetup, btw, doesn't focus on discussing religion although some meetings are specifically for that. We have a lot of people and Houston is large, so meetups happen in many different areas of the city (and suburbs) and sometimes they involve helping others, sometimes they are purely social around something people want to do. We have a book discussion club, a book lending club for nonreligious books, pub meetups, bowling meetups, meetups for women specifically, meetups at the gay pride parade, meetups at the art car parade, meetups to go see movies or comedy acts, etc., etc. The convention idea is nice, but that can get large. The meetup groups are generally smaller in terms of numbers attending any single meetup, so you can actually get to know people.
