Amen! If church was that profound, I'd go every Sunday....

What is greater, being born to some predetermined purpose or being free to make your own...

I know which I'd choose... the one that gives me a choice!

Carl Sagan. He'll never know it, but he's one of my mentors...

so the purpose you are bound to is "making yourself free"

just remember that there is no freedom from cause and effect.

there is only freedom from being judged.

but there is always a loop-hole.

You are free to jump off a cliff; cause and effect says you'll die when you hit bottom. Strap on a parachute, however and you can still jump off the cliff but not die at the end. Or, build a cliff-jumping robot with a camera, or an ultra-realistic computer simulation of a cliff and "jump" off with absolutely no risk!

If I hadn't picked up Carl Sagan's "Intelligent Life in the Universe" in my school's library when I was 12 I'd never have developed a burning passion for science in general and biology in particular. My life's work and all of my successes, I owe to him.
