Which comprises the greater percentage of atheists, those who think of themselves as atheists, or those without a title, who may just say "I'm not religious," "I don't know," or avoid the question for decades...

Is the vast majority of atheists comprised of people who do not call, nor think of themselves as specifically, atheists?

Do a substantial percentage of atheists believe, in a sense, in an afterlife and a god? Note that this type of belief is different than believing that the sky is blue from seeing it, or from believing that most humans will not live past age 100 (from logic) This is the type of sort-of-believing, where people imagine they'll go to a happy place and see all their old friends after death, and there's someone who loves them who runs everything...but they consciously know this to be untrue and change their outlook when it interferes negatively with their logical processes.

...is the title theist and atheist, interchangeable in many cases?

Yes. But don't tell them; it can get very confusing.

I think that most atheists just don't believe in god and don't really give the subject much thought beyond that.

I think that there are a huge number of "closet" atheists out there. A lot of people who claim to be religious or claim theism are just following the path of least resistance, avoiding confrontation, mollifying family or friends, or just don't care enough about the subject to really formulate a stance.

At one time in my life I didn't believe in God, but didn't think of myself as an athiest. I did not classify myself. I now do believe in God and feel for people who do not believe.

You feel WHAT for people who do not believe, and why?

Sorry for. Trust me. Just as we feel sorry for people who cannot step outside of the confines of faith and question everything and anything.

Oh, I know. This smug "pity" for the poor atheist is one of the most distasteful attributes of the Religiously Impaired. They just have to pray for your poor self because you are so sad, so bitter, so broken, so DEFECTIVE and so on and so on.

How does it feel to be conceited, smug and patronizing?
