Just as religious organizations have formed clinics, hospitals, schools, etc., should atheists do the same?

Not all are religious.

No, no more than non-drinkers should have their own A.A. Think.

No, that wouldn't make sense, why would we choose to fundraise exclusively with athiests? There's no organization that binds us together. We could individually give to charities to build these things as civic projects, but I can't think of a way we'd do it where it wasn't open to everyone. Without a competing organizational structure like a church hierarchy, atheists usually differ to the state or private enterprise to handle things like that.

While there is a need for atheist institutions - deconversion assistance clinics, atheist thinktanks, atheist information units, atheist alternative venues for weddings and funerals, we need atheist - specific organizations only where there is a need .

Ongoing need for improvements aside, other institutions can remain as they are without particular religion input. There is no reason why hospitals shouldn't have little religious rooms for the use of those with religions, but there it would stay. Schools and colleges could have religious societies, prayer meetings and the like but it would be confined there. Politicians could be elected to office whether they were Buddhist, Catholic, Mormon, Hindu, atheist, Wiccan, baptist or Muslim. But they would keep it to themselves. The society, laws, politics, education and medicine would be run on humanist lines if only to ensure that no one religion dominates. And it's better anyway.

P.s you do ask some very interesting questions. I like your style. I suppose you wouldn't care to post on your religious views an why you are curious about what makes us tick (just don't try to defuse us -we are booby-trapped ).

I already have an institution. The Library. If only the governments in places like the UK would stop trying to shut them all down. Ad educated and literate electorate seems to be against policy.

Atheism = no belief in god. Anything more becomes just another "church".

Mouldy Old Schmo, I'd bet that there are just as many "atheists" working in these religious organizations as there are not...Atheists don't need to organize, not believing in a phony god is hardly worth organizing for, only believers need to form organizations, because the indoctrination needs to be continually maintained and punishments handed out, atheists are FREE from all that.
