Doctor House:

Quote:
-What I have difficulty with is the whole concept of belief. Faith isn’t based on logic and experience.
-You talk to God, you’re religious. God talks to you — you’re psychotic.
-Rational arguments don’t usually work on religious people. Otherwise there would be no religious people.
-Religion is a symptom of irrational belief and groundless hope.
-Religion is not the opiate of the masses; religion is the placebo of the masses.
-Either God doesn't exist or he's unimaginably cruel.

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”
Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion

“The chicken is only an egg’s way for making another egg.”
Richard Dawkins

“There are, after all, atheists who say they wish the fable were true but are unable to suspend the requisite disbelief, or who have relinquished belief only with regret. To this I reply: who wishes that there was a permanent, unalterable celestial despotism that subjected us to continual surveillance and could convict us of thought-crime, and who regarded us as its private property even after we died? How happy we ought to be, at the reflection that there exists not a shred of respectable evidence to support such a horrible hypothesis.”
Christopher Hitchens

“In fact, "atheism" is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a "non-astrologer" or a "non-alchemist." We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.”
Sam Harris

"What is asserted without evidence, can also be dismissed without evidence." -Christopher Hitchens

"The Bible may, indeed does, contain a warrant for trafficking in humans, for ethnic cleansing, for slavery, for bride-price, and for indiscriminate massacre, but we are not bound by any of it because it was put together by crude, uncultured human mammals."-Christopher Hitchens

"Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." - This one gave me a chuckle years ago, although, I don't know who said it.

"Religion has caused more misery to all of mankind in every stage of human history than any other single idea."

I love that one too. This one is much less serious, but I still love it:

"The Old Testament is a bunch of bedtime stories for children. The New Testament was a story cooked up by a bunch of opportunists. Muhammad was a greedy, warmongering liar. Buddha was a silly fat man who ate psychedelic mushrooms. If you worship an elephant with multiple arms, you're stupider than you look. There's an alternative to meditation, you know, and it works wonders. It's called sleep. And Pagans? You deserved to be wiped out as painfully as possible 1800 years ago for worshipping big reflective balls of ignited Hydrogen as gods, you f***ing idiots."

- Cap'n Marvel

That is interesting isn't it? Even in the times of the alleged bible chronology and the alleged times of jesus, there were people who doubted it. Even in it's heyday? When god was talking from the mountains, the skies, and the burning bush? .... I think some of the biblical authors were burning some bush.
Talk about a serious credibility problem.

Nah, that's just God anticipating all the possible responses in his infinite wisdom, you know, covering all bases.
