Come to the Rally for real Science in our textbooks.

No Matter Where You Live, You Can Stand Up for Science
We're only a few days out from the big Stand Up for Science rally and science textbook hearing at the State Board of Education. We are giving you two options for joining the chorus of voices around the state promoting science next Tuesday:

Attend the Rally in Austin, TX
The rally starts at noon, but plan to arrive early to get a T-shirt and have your picture taken with Big Tex and T-Rex. (The rally will be held by the main entrance to the TEA building at 17th St. and Congress.)

Tuesday, September 17
William B. Travis Building (1701 N. Congress )
12-12:30 p.m.

Virtual Rally
If you can't make it to Austin on Tuesday, you can still help send a message to the state board that you support sound science textbooks. And it's easy.

If you have any questions before next Tuesday, please email val@tfn.org

Good for you folk, I hope they can talk sense into the idiots that profess to be educators.

It's not the educators or teachers who are to blame. It's the politicians who are in control of this. The Texas Board of Education is crazy\

Texas creationists: Textbook reviewers want more religion in their science.

Quote:
In 2007 Gov. Rick Perry appointed Don McLeroy, a young-Earth creationist, to head the state Board of Education (BoE), setting up a situation where education in Texas suffered mightily. In 2009 the state science standards were weakened, with clearly Biblically based beliefs behind the effort. In 2010 the BoE approved revisionist history in the textbooks (including apologetics for Joseph McCarthy, in case you were wondering just how ridiculous this stuff gets). In 2011 Texas creationists tried to get religious supplemental materials inserted into classes but lost. It goes on and on, and all the while they’ve been picking away at science and reality.
Quote:
Earlier this year, the BoE sent out letters to “experts” asking to help them evaluate the high school biology textbooks being considered for use.
Quote:

Several of the “experts” were creationists, and they met recently to give their opinions. Several statements given by them have been made public, and well, wow:

I understand the National Academy of Science's [sic] strong support of the theory of evolution. At the same time, this is a theory. As an educator, parent, and grandparent, I feel very firmly that ‘creation science’ based on Biblical principles should be incorporated into every Biology book that is up for adoption.

The BOE is not made up of educators, though. Don't conflate the politicians who run for the Board with educators.
