Interesting by my count of those posting on this thread who have said they are female,
there are 10 of us. There are a couple more who I think are female as well. Only 2 males have weighed in, though I count 4 others at least who I think are male.

Is that statistically the same as the whole forum? Meaning are there more men on CD than women?

I doubt we would ever know.

I would say women tend to be more social and churches tend to provide a social environment. Secondly I think there are just as many non believing women as there are men however I think women tend to identify with the term atheist less, perhaps because it still carries a lot of weight in the US and women tend to be less combative or prone to conflict than men are. These are all huge over generalizations but I think it may hold some truth. Personally I meet more non believing women then men but that's because of the major I have at my university...but I do meet more men who are open atheists than women as well.

On the opposite side, men tend to be, in my experience the most religious and the strongest defenders of it as well.

I'm not sure how I would come to be counted as Atheist. It never comes up. Ever. And, honestly, participating in the Atheist movement? I don't even attend PTO meetings, because I find large groups of people, particularly those with a cause, to be entirely insufferable. A few nights ago my husband and I attended a team fund-raising dinner for one of our kids, and all I could think the entire time was, "Get me out of here!" It's not that I'm a loner -- I have friends and a social life -- but I'm not a joiner.

In any case, I'm a 45-year-old, happily-married, stay-at-home mom of three teenagers and a non-believer for as long as I can remember. If asked, I wouldn't hesitate to say I'm Atheist, but nobody ever asks.

That's about the size of it for me too (56 year old father of 2 & step father of 2 more and grandfather of 3). No one has EVER asked me about my spiritual beliefs, period, that I can recall, shy of a door knocking Jehovah's Witness or something contrived like that.
