inductive reasoning can't tell you whether a given idea is true or not, but if used properly, it does tell you whether that idea is reasonable or not.
Actually it can tell you whether it is likely or not. As in the example I gave, I believe inductively that my wife will always be faithful to me sexually, but this is based on someone I can actually observe and assess and whose past I actually can know from other than tertiary sources.
