"Checkmate, atheists" is a popular internet meme. It's meant to mock the ridiculous sounding reasons that Christians give to prove the existence of a god.

I'm a Christian and that Ray Comfort quote makes no sense to me.

I wasn't familiar with that meme, and I've been an atheist for quite a while.
Clearly, I don't spend nearly enough time on the interwebz. I'll have to buckle down and really apply myself.

What, you didn't get the newsletter about this?! I'm frequently late to the party on most trends/memes; it made me feel a part of my generation that I actually knew what was going on this time around.

How dare those people die in rebellion to God! The nerve of them, just keeling over and croaking like that.

This is not new. The Tsunami when it wiped out a lot of people of all faiths looked like a natural disaster in which no divine purpose was discernable. The memorably fatheaded 'explanation' was that "God just was just letting us know he was there".

Rather like that, Ray's 'explanation' will provide very little Comfort.

Look at the Philippines, so many are devout christians and do believe in god! Oh they probably didn't pray hard enough so they got hit with that typhoon. What utter nonsense.
