As an unrepentant atheist I don't have a problem with some deist speculation that some god like force (whatever that might mean) set off the forces that created the universe out of nothing, but these piddling gods that have nothing better to do that to worry about the souls of an insignificant species on insignificant planet orbiting a diminutive sun in some unremarkable sector of the universe?!?! Come on!

When I consider stars UY Scuti which is 1,708 TIMES larger than our sun, black holes, or the simple fact that the when I look at the heavens I can see back millions of years in the past. I'm sorry but that is simply no competition of parting seas, burning bushes, or even a flood of Noahic proportions.

In short nothing confirms my atheism, as much as a look at our universe.

You are not an atheist. You are just antireligion.

Well then, even if so, he has that right. If believers can believe, we can vehemently disbelieve.

Religion is man made. Anyone can be antireligion. In fact some protestants hate the Catholic religion.

Everytime I hear an Atheist talking about Atheism they are simply putting down religion. That is not atheism.

Why not talk about the cause of the Big Bang. The creation of something out of nothing.

Not all of us. For the umpteenth time please stop painting us all with the same brush.

As to the post, ovcatto made some very general remarks about man made ideas of god. I don't know why you would call that religion bashing - he wasn't being that specific.
He also said "I don't have a problem with some deist speculation that some god like force....set off the forces that created the universe out of nothing".
How is that anti-religion?

He specifically stated that he's an atheist. I think he'd know if he's an atheist or not. One thing that has been discussed on here ad infinitum is the meaning of atheism. This thread is not about that. Can we please not have that discussion again...

Causes of the Big Bang has been discussed on here.

Oh gawd! How I do so love the religious self-righteous (I have to assume because they are the only one's who make these sort of arguments) who are so quick to tell atheist who they are or what they believe.

Anyway, no I am not anti-religion, in point of fact I participate in religious rituals and functions from time to time but let there be NO DOUBT, that I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE EXISTENCE OF GOD and certainly none of the gods that I have ever been proposed by man.

Further, I took pains NOT to post this thread in the theist oriented forums so as NOT to offend, or get into flame words with slighted theist. If I were interested in bashing religion, I would have posted this in the main section.

PS - This sub-forum is not the place for proselytizing or attempting to convert atheists or agnostics. It is meant for atheists and agnostics interested in discussions among themselves and for others who want to learn more about this worldview and are interested in posing non-confrontational questions to atheists or agnostics. Use our main Religion and Philosophy forum if you want to debate the merits of this worldview (but do a search first to see if your topics have already been discussed).

I apologize, but you sounded like someone that believes in a creator.

I am also a cosmology enthusiast.

That's ok. I don't personally believe that some god out there kicked off the Big Bang, but I'm also not about to get into an argument with some deist that holds out such possibility. But when it comes to the god of Abraham I feel that I am on pretty solid ground arguing that god (and all the other human manifestations of such things) don't exist, hence this thread.
