I don't believe in god, and never have. I can't imagine living in a society that is so closed minded as has been described here in this thread.

I have lived in various parts of the US, and no other place was filled with people who always talked about god this and god that, and what church do you go to, etc.

The other thing I hear ALL the time here in the south is "Have a blessed day." When a person says that, I politely say thank you, but it seems to me that it's just another way a person can show how "spiritual" they are....another "code phrase" for showing off their religiosity. Starts to get on my nerves when I hear it so much.

Just when I feel some joy in the holiday season and start to move on a more positive feeling about Christmas, I find something that kicks me back into being very frustrated with others and the bible belt area.

For several weeks now things have gone well and my attitude was great, then I get a phone call from my sister who is even deeper into the bible belt and we talk for several minutes, all of which simply ends up with just putting me back on track or off track whichever way you perceive it.

I don’t want to spoil someone else’s Christmas and I don’t intrude on their beliefs, so I try to be “up” with the season. Then after hearing so much nonsense I get turned off and don’t want to hear any more of what they are preaching.

I fall back to the memories of what I learned in catechism and how I remember the teaching of our church at the time, but I can’t understand my sister (and others like her) their religious statements and thoughts. The God I knew and learned about isn’t that hateful towards “anyone” of any reason. So why do I have to deal with “their” hateful and harmful words and thoughts.

I can be a morally good person but I simply can’t take any more of this religious polarizing talk of craziness. I don’t thump my bible, I don’t buy guns for the end times, and I don’t understand the aggressiveness of them.

They would move to the USA to earn more money.

We have the best doctors, and that is why one of your politicians came to Miami for a heart operation instead of subjecting himself to the Canadian health care system.

Who said the "hateful and harmful words"? If it was your sister, what exactly did she say?

This had less to do with any sort of issue with Canadian health care than it did with the fact it was an unusual and specialized cutting edge surgery that he chose to pay extra for and go where it was available. He said himself that the small province he lives in just doesn't have the facilities. It is no different than someone in South Podunk, Maine flying to Boston to have a difficult health issue dealt with by specialists.

He could have stayed in Canada and had the older, conventional, more invasive surgery. He'd have lived either way.

I'll stop here as we are getting off-topic. Way off-topic.

Basically ugly prejudice. However it’s clearly not the Christ like image that I would expect to see of a Christian or someone professing to be a Christian.

Did she actually say she hated something or did she just express her opinion and disagree with you?

^^^
There was no disagreement, as the comments were simply expressed as if “that’s just the way it is” and moved on to other topics. I didn’t feel the need to continue the topic at the time and discuss it further. There’s no talking with some people, so I dropped it all together.
