So what are you other atheists doing tonight?

We just showed all three Back to the Future movies to our teenager.

Putting presents under the tree for my son and possibly exchanging a gift or two. Christmas stopped being a religious-only holiday when they started putting Christmas stuff out before Thanksgiving!

We went skiing, had huevos rancheros for dinner & then bundled up to trudge through the snow looking at Xmas decorations. No presents. Tomorrow off to friends carrying food dishes to add to their turkey feast. Merry Christmas ho ho ho!

Just got back from family friends. We always do christmas eve with them. Apparently they must have robbed a toy store and given most of it to my kids. Thankfully we remembered to purge last week.

More presents await them in the morning and more visiting with family and friends. I'm excited to give my wife her gift. She wanted a new drill.

e- mails, posting here, looking at the British Museum site for when it re- opens. trying to finish the matching of Luke's 'Q' material (11- 18) with Matthew's (everywhere from sermon to temple wrangles) For the Book. I had to review the whole lot again to make sure I hadn't missed anything out.

I shall try to reactivate my paypal to get a few CD's. I really would like Schuberts' 10th - sketches, realized, and Sibelius' 5th, original version.
I won't have on the TV, it all seems repeats, and endless 'Santa' films. Not even Lord of the Rings yet again.
No, as i work, I shall play Bruckner's 5th, Rimsky's 'Invisible city of ...let me check....Kittehs..Lol...let me check again...Kitezh' suite. The finale of the Apotheosis of Fevronia always makes me get up and do 'air guitar', with an invisible baton.

Here endeth the sad man's diary...

This is now Christmas morning. In a few hours I'll be headed to my sister's for some Christmas festivities. Last night on Christmas Eve I went with my sister to a Candle Light church service. It has become something of a tradition for me and my sister. We have done it for about the last five years. The church holding the service is the same one my sister and I attended as kids many years ago. I am now an atheist and my sister is moderately religious.

Ironically, when the minister gave his sermon, a sermon about "allowing God into your heart to guide you", I was sitting in a pew trying to ascertain how it was that I once believed any of what the minister was saying. By the end of his sermon I had come to the conclusion that it was a case of my being a vulnerable kid while respected adults pontificating to me and at least to some degree implanted an element of fear into me. As I sit here writing this post, I wonder if last night's minister would want to know what I was thinking as he spoke his sermon. He probably wouldn't.
