I have gone to my grandfather's grave site once since his passing a few years ago. I never went there for the burial because I had to go back home. To me it's not that important. It was important to see it and make sure it was completed as planned but being there does nothing for me. I don't really have plans to go back, but if I did it would be just a comfort feeling, not that I would expect to "talk to him" or "sense" him or anything.

Oh - and I am an Atheist

I haven't but I will visit my Cousin's burial site soon simply because that's where his body is. I miss him dearly and want to pay my respects and just be there...its kind of closure or at least a way of feeling close to the last place he was at.

As an atheist, I still visit my relatives/friends graves and take them flowers. I like to go to make their graves look nice and clean up anything that maybe around them (leaves/dirt). IMO, it also shows that they are loved and still remembered. This has nothing to do with my beliefs but my love/respect for the person who has passed away
