I assume I will return to nothingness because I have seen no evidence to the contrary. Of course, there may be something of which I'm not aware. If I needed to know about it in this life, I would be aware of it. So I'm good either way.
While I am still of sound mind, I want my brain patterns scanned and stored digitally and then later reconstructed on an advanced supercomputer hard drive not yet developed. For a while, I will exist in the virtual world complete with my brain patterns, personality, memories, etc...
Then centuries later, the digital me will be downloaded into a host robotic-human with a blank slate, organic brain. I will live forever!
Just kidding.
There will be nothing. I will be glad to have lived in the cosmos and happy to give way so someone else, or something else can enjoy a short stay.
I guess when you die, one of three things will happen: 1. You will be gone - oblivion - nothing.
2. You will be in heaven with God and the angels in eternal bliss. 3. You wil be in hell tortured for eternity in misery.

Consciousness is simply a product of neural activity in those animals (humans included) whose evolutionary adaptations include relatively high intelligence. Biological processes cease, the brain ceases to function, consciousness disappears.
Now, we can make up stories. Here's one: When we die, we all turn into butterflies and fly off to live happily amongst the rings of Saturn!
And that's no more absurd that all the other fanciful, made-up tales that have absolutely nothing to do with reality.
Thinking that some part of 'you' lives on beyond the cessation of biological processes is as baseless as thinking that a rock 'lives'. Feel free to do so, but don't pretend it's anything more than groundless fantasy.
