I've watched enough movies to know that there are numerous things which might happen to you.
You might get mysteriously re-animated as a zombie, rise from your grave and go on a slow moving but relentless hunt for human flesh to eat.
If you were someone's mentor in life, you stand a good chance of continuing to exist as a ghost that only the men-tee hears and sees. Your primary role is moral exposition device.
In some rare cases, you might get brought back to play ball in a ballfield built in the middle of a corn pasture in Iowa.
If you are dead as a result of some curse which some enchanted person placed upon you, and you will remain dead forever as long no one ever summons your spirit/removes the stake/unlocks the vault where your body rests/ recites the chant that releases you.....whatever....In such a case, it is certain that someone will do whatever it takes to bring you back alive into the modern world. Then you are pretty much obligated to cause a lot of mayhem.
If you were a Jedi knight in life, there seems to be some arrangement where the force keeps your ghost going for periodic cameo appearances designed to encourage living Jedi knights.
Finally...it is important to pay attention to the nature of your death. If your body isn't found, but you are presumed dead from the explosion/fire/flood/wild beast attack/apparent suicide...whatever....then there is an excellent chance that you aren't really dead, just staging your death. Don't give up, hang tough and you will reappear when the plot calls for it.
I haven't been exposed to many atheists or agnostics in my lifetime so unfortunately, I've heard primarily fundamentalist Christian viewpoints. Is the most widely accepted view among the non-religious that after death is the same as before birth--nothingness? Is it possible that one could live as another form of life after their life has passed, but simply with no memory of another life because of a brand new consciousness? In essence is it just a cycle of energy like the water cycle?
From the evidence at hand - no, it is not possible. I refuse to believe the lies.
The answer to your question in the topic heading is nothing, at least as far as your life goes. It will be like before you are born.
Live now while you still can and make the best of it.

Then you can go on a motorcycle road-trip with your only friend in the world who is dying of Cancer and is ironically, a cancer doctor.
WHAT evidence? Lack of evidence either way means NOTHING .. Kinda like Bigfoot or Extraterrestrials.
But there is not a lack of evidence.
We have a lot of evidence linking consciousness to the brain.
We have no evidence showing a possible divide between the two, or that one can exist without the other.
While none of this is conclusive, as nothing ever is, it is certainly correct to say that all the evidence points one way and no evidence points the other way.
So yes "From the evidence at hand" we can safely say at this point that all expectations are that death is a total cessation of all your consciousness and subjective experience.
I guess when you die, one of three things will happen: 1. You will be gone - oblivion - nothing.
2. You will be in heaven with God and the angels in eternal bliss. 3. You wil be in hell tortured for eternity in misery.
2 and 3 are Christian myths. You might be reincarnated. You might end up in Valhalla. You might end up

You're right - I was being short-sighted. You could end up with a hundred virgins drooling over you, or maybe a zombie, etc as a previous poster mentioned
