Obviously, I could be very wrong. But what I sense is that this time we live
in now is the beginning of Religion's last attempt at a surge, which I think
will fail. Think about how things will change over the next 30 years once
the older generation dies off.
You know I'm not too sure it's religion that is making the so-called surge but rather those who espouse a more secular approach to the living of life. That is where I think the change lies. You make an interesting point on the older generation dying off. It's evdient that that may have some implication on the role of types of belief in succeeding generations.

I don't have a crystal ball but it stands to reason that depending on how successive generations manage their relationship to so-called 'spiritual' matters within themselves and with their communities will determine say the existence of new religions, the growth of incumbent ones or perhaps even no religions with a God-head. Messages will be fashioned and belief will be molded. We're probably seeing the start now here in the early 21st.

We just need to help people to refrain from trading one mythology for another one. Don't merely switch religions because it make you feel like a rebel.
