There are a few out there, though I've only met people who are both Christian in the "going to church and following the bible" sense and who are Christian in the "love your neighbor and don't be a judgmental jerk" sense in the older generations. Mostly my grandparents (Great Depression era) and a few Boomers. Most Boomers and younger who I've met are EITHER "Christians" who follow the church + bible, but are horribly judgmental, right-wing, and full of hatred... OR they are good people who love their neighbors and who are not judgmental, but they've walked away from organized religion for obvious reasons.

Somewhere along the line, organized religions in a lot of civilized places started to get back to the "bad old days" of focusing on hatred and condemning others. So, it's no surprise that people who subscribe to organized religions tend to believe that crap, while those who don't walk away. I do find it interesting, though, that I most of the people I knew from my grandparent's generation who were religious were NOT judgmental jerks. I'm not sure if age mellowed them (though that's doubtful since most Boomers and younger I've seen get angrier and more bigoted with age), or if the horrid experiences of the Great Depression and WW2 gave them some perspective so they understood that hating somebody because they are gay or Muslim or whatever just isn't worth it.

Giving up religion is one step closer to reason.

No, not one.

I find it hard to believe that you can be frightened by BS youtube videos about Hell but there ya go!

I've met many that have claimed to be but none that ever displayed any characteristics that demonstrated that they were. I've never met one that heeded the words of his man-god and sold all his possessions and given the money to the poor. Nor have I ever met one who said that, if he found a thief hoisting his TV out the door, he would offer him his Hi-Fi too. Yet further, I have never met one that had not bothered to try to get back something that has been stolen from him. What I see displayed by them every day is the same outrage and desire for vengeance displayed by the rest of us.

I don't hang around people like that. They are too weird and out of touch. They mean well, that's true enough.

I had an aunt that was generally the nicest person I ever met. She got mad but got over it. She said some mean things at times but never treated the person disrespectfully. She was just "nice", not perfect. I am guessing Jesus was a lot like her. If there is an afterlife, she should be disappointed in me, but she won't be.

In this universe she is nothing,
I am less than her.
That's just the way it is.

Your question is fine.

I asked transbaby a question. The question, like your question does, put his illogical thinking in the illogical box when answered honestly. Poof ... he ran. Just like any hard core religious person has to do when pure observation based logic smacks emotional based logic head on.

The devil is in the details, not the over all claim. Understand thy neighbor doesn't mean kill him if because he doesn't agree with you. Atheism is using the scientific method to support claim, its about understanding the way the universe works. Its not about anti-religion. There is no logical reason that all of us have to support that sect of atheism just because we are for separation of church and state.

Yes, Based on the bible I see people like jesus. They get mad. They try to teach that people should try and do what they are supposed to do when living in a group. They help whenever they can. And they pay their taxes. "should" is a word that I mean "losely".

yeah, I guess I see a lot.

They are just "put to the cross" by the horn blowers.

Yes. We can. It's the rest of the people that have issue with us doing it. For some reason everyone wants to think of themselves as Christians, no matter what they actually believe, or what God(dess) they worship.

This thread is interesting, and somewhat educational. I'm sorry that so many people have such a low opinion of Christians.

Then you should try to be a better person. Your posts certainly contribute to that low opinion.
