And he benefited enormously under the care of his Christian wives who disbelieved the "science" that said he had only two years to live after diagnosis. Without them he may not have survived so long.
So, it was only the fact that the wives were Christian that allowed him to survive all of those years? Let's not give credit to the wives... only that their religion is what did it? It isn't that taking care of a loved one is simply what you do - regardless of your religion. I'd imagine if his wives were not Christian, they'd have put a pillow over his head the first chance they had?
Absolutely 100% false. PEOPLE have a history of killing each other. And I'm certainly not trying to defend Christianity or any religion. I see the churches as being filled Natural Religionists. Most of them are going to be part of an organized religion, but that is how most people are. That will never change.
Do be honest. You know very well Christians have killed each other for centuries over religion and during they crusades they killed Muslims. Have all the spirituality you want, but if it matters to you, why wrap it up in any philosophy that includes a history of murder?
What do atheists think of the choice of Hawking to have a Christian religious funeral ?
Anyway... like it or not... his Christian funeral ( it is a sacrament.. and only true Christians believe in sacraments.. no followers of atheism needs a sacrament) speaks for itself...
So if you don't want a Christian service funeral... you need to inform your family not to lie to the priests on your last wills ..

Stephen Hawkings ashes are being interred right next to that well known Christian, Charles Darwin.

It's rather disgusting that some feel the need to taint the memory about others just because that person was not just like the first person. Darwin recanted the Theory of evolution however those in the room with him in England did not hear his words but a person in New York City did. England showed Hawking the great respect he deserved and suddenly it means he became a believer.
Do they have no respect for the dead, or the truth?

Yes i should have written it as you have. The claim of his recant in wss both dishonest and foolish. Wallace never recanted for instance and how successful would it be to actually recant a scientific theory?
These claims about Darwin or Hawking just make their God appear terribly weak and pathetic, that he needs followers to lie for him.
A funeral by a church does not imply anything about a person's beliefs, necessarily. Is is considered in many Christian churches a corporal work of mercy to bury the dead, whether or not they are Christian. In the Anglican tradition there are separate burial rites for non-Christians.
