Sorry, but you haven't made that case. It's absurd for you to say that. Religion is a surface reflection of what is going on in the world. Religion doesn't cause people to do things. And so that doesn't justify your attitudes. George Carlin was a talented comedian who lost all of his credibility. Now I question all of his opinions.
You are asking why people hate atheists. Maybe it's because atheists always sound like stupid people who are trying to get attention. You haven't given any reason why people shouldn't hate them. Maybe atheists are just some kind of sadists who enjoy that hatred?
1. Are you sure you want to say that religion (including x-ianity) is only a reflection of the world? That it doesn't lead people to do anything?
2. Although I didn't care for him, George Carlin didn't "lose all his credibility". Not many people have gone on working who have had 3 heart attacks, cardiac ablation, two angioplasties, and heart failure.
3. Anyone should question a comedian's opinions, particularly a cutting edge comedian.
4. So atheists always sound like stupid people? Yet here you are in an atheist sub-forum, you are regularly negatively critiqued by other forum members, and it would seem that you are the one who is seeking attention by posting here.

You used "ancient wisdom" as something all-encompassing.
Old ideas may or may not be valid, calling them "ancient wisdom" is a marketing device to make them seem more profound and established regardless of actual content or practicality. Just one more empty gun in Ozzy's fantasy arsenal.
The "hated" atheists are the ones that see fit to push their belief, or lack of belief, system into everything much like a Jehovah Witness knocking on your castle door when you are relaxing at home.
Really, because I've never had an atheist knocking on my door, or accosting me out in public. That's been theists.
So rather than acknowledge ancient wisdom, you just ridicule OTHER things from the same library where that wisdom came from.
"Ancient wisdom" included alchemy, astrology, and belief in an Earth centered universe. Not to mention the various mythological stories of the deeds and adventures of the Gods/gods. In other words, a whole lot of make believe and superstitious nonsense. Widely held nonsensical beliefs represent intellectual baggage that must routinely be discarded if we wish to remain on the path to genuine knowledge.
The ancients were very intelligent, but we today have far surpassed them in knowledge. As well we should have, given the extra centuries of careful investigation.

If my previously-posted hypothesis is correct, and freethinkers tend to be on the right of the bell curve, then one of the reasons the freethinkers may be disliked is resentment. Nobody likes someone with a superior attitude, however ill disguised.
I think it is simply part of the herd mentality, which we can see in other areas of life. For example, people who choose to home school, people who are pursuing FIRE, etc.

Theists who hate atheists are kind of comical, when you think about it. If said theist is a Christian, they are doing the exact opposite of what Jesus told them to do.
