It's probably not unusual that Christians refer to atheists as people who don't believe in anything. Which comes to, believe in god or nothing. As if atheists live aimless, meaningless lives. Or like saying, "Oh, you poor, pitiful misguided soul, you don't believe in anything!"
There is more to belief than the belief of god, and/or the supernatural.
I believe in myself, not thru any diety, but in myself. I am not the part of anyone's master plan.
It would be nice if others considered what they say before they say it.

I hear that a lot. Hell, I've heard it from my own family. It's just a failure to understand a worldview different from their own.
Atheism is not nihilism. Just because you don't believe in supernatural beings doesn't mean you live an empty, aimless life. I believe in lots of things ... just not gods.

Of course that's right. But nihilists believe in things too!
I've had people ask me that question a few times over the years. I just say I don't believe in anything supernatural but I believe in all kinds of things that are actually real. You do get the feeling that when people ask that question they see you as a person going through some sort of life crisis who desperately needs to find God.

I'm a nihilist and I find this a bit ironic. I find it that as an Atheist christians make the mistake of saying I don't believe in anything but as a Nihilist, it seems everyone else takes a jab at it or at least at what they feel it stands for. Surely I believe in lots of things but nothing when it comes to the supernatural or absolutes. I don't think our lives have any meaning apart from reproduction perhaps but even then no one is obliged to follow this instinct.
I believe in science. My priests are researchers and my bible is the scientific method. Convincing the religious to believe in these things is just as difficult as making me believe in deities.
I think what they're really trying to say is that we have no faith. Meaning, of course, that we don't think something exists simply because we want it to exist.
I believe in unicorns and leprechauns. That's something.
