Today I helped somebody purchase something whose Costco card expired by letting him use mine. I did it all by myself, without prompting from a sophomoric belief that I need to do something nice in order to be "saved". I just did it, because if I were in the same position I'd appreciate somebody doing the same for me. And, I'm guessing there are plenty of atheists who can show consideration for others without prompting by fear-mongering anthropomorphists. What say you?

I just bought some of my Christmas Presents through a UK charity called "Oxfam" which allows you to buy all sorts of useful things for third world villages such as goats, farm allotments, seeds, toilets, medicine/vaccination pack, school packs, teachers for the village school, etc... Let's face it most of us end up with a lot of unwanted presents after Christmas and I prefer something useful .
Oxfam Unwrapped, Give a different gift! (http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/Hub.aspx?catalog=Unwrapped - broken link)
Cows 'n' Things - Buy ethical gifts online to help older people overseas

Feel good presents and a lot more environmentally friendly too !

And early tomorrow morning I will be in my local Methodist Church , volunteering to check the shoe boxes for the Samaritan's Purse "Operation Christmas Child" , one of my favourite times of year.

I am also going through my three times yearly clearing of the house for unwanted stuff, clothes etc.. which we will donate to a homeless charity and I have just purchased some homeless shelter vouchers from my local homeless shelter so I can give some to homeless people. It gives them a roof over their heads for the night and a free hot dinner and breakfast.

I also have to finish my letters for Amnesty International for their highlighted cases and of course at the moment Amnesty also has their "greetings cards" campaign where we send cards to prisoners around the world .

Doing "good" things has been made so easy nowadays that there is really no excuse not to.

Today I bought breakfast for somebody who is having a very rough morning. Last weekend I changed a neighbor's tire because he's got a heart condition and shouldn't be doing heavy stuff right now.

We drove up to an animal shelter in Glasglow KY that is not "no-kill" and adopted our first dog! What a day.

I listened to a friend who needed a shoulder today and also hired a young man who has an emotional disorder to fix my plumbing. (Don't worry... he's stable and I know him.)

Last week I gave a coat to someone who didn't have one, right out of my closet.

I've organized a Santas Helper program on the parenting community that I run to help make the holidays a little more special for some of our members and their families who otherwise might not've been able to enjoy the holidays this year.

I also recently took my oldest daughter to the grocery store to purchase non parishable food items that we then took to her school and donated to the family services centers.

Does that mean you won't give them to Catholics? (j/k)

I made breakfast for our extended family (three students: one from Duke, one from ECU, and one from UNC). I baked two apple pies (one for us one for a neighbor), got the upstairs ready for my family who will be here this afternoon, checked the yard for excess leaves (it has been a battle the last few weeks). I rake, they fall again soon as I turn my back. Than I brace for the confusion that comes with a family gathering in our house whole.
Tonight I will finish cooking the small things and get the bird ready for going in the oven. By sun rise there will be nothing to do but cut on the oven and wait.
