195. I guessed at Feyniman and got it wrong and I said yes.

4. An acceptable part of atheism, for most atheists, is belittling and ridiculing religion, especially Christianity.
Your Answer: True

The correct answer was f. Although a vocal minority take it upon themselves to condemn all religion publicly, most atheists favor religious tolerance- for *all* religions. A good discussion of this topic is at Atheism Myths: do atheists hate God and Christians?

I still think that it is necessary for atheists to combat religion as a delusion and not something on which a worldview should be based. And that inevitably involves 'belittling and ridiculing religion, especially Christianity' if showing that it has no support is to be understod that way. I concede that I would prefer to be tolerant, but at the moment, I don't think we can afford to be.

So I accept my 'Wrong'.

Agreed. I do get the impression that he wa a lapsed Christian and he usd it and its symbols rather than subscribed to it. I do think, however, that he had some kind of theistic belief: god, fate, whatever. Some kind of power that planned and had chosen particular people and had Plans for them. I think that disqualifies him as an atheist.

The question is not whether antitheism is a good thing, but whether it's considered important to most atheists. Which I doubt, since a large proportion of atheists live in religion-light countries and many don't give a damn about religion either way.
