Not to mention all those millennia of perfectly natural evolution. Bananas "want" to be eaten, in order to spread their seeds, so evolution made them as attractive as possible to the local fauna. Including apes.

Even in that video, it said, "and Dawkins believes we may have been created by aliens!" No, he just doesn't reject it as impossible, just like every other unprovable creation story.

Comfort, on the other hand, completely missed his target with his banana and had to change his argument from "the banana was created by god because it couldn't have happened naturally" to "humans have the ability to selectively breed bananas so god must have given us the intelligence to do it." If he really meant to just use our intelligence as the argument, he wouldn't have said anything about a banana that he thought humans had nothing to do with.

But the fact that we don't have everything perfect (in fact the world is very hostile to us), and have had to work hard and build off the efforts of our ancestors who suffered gravely for their lack of technology, seems to highlight a severe lack of evidence for a (benevolent) creator.

Actually, if you watch his banana video in context, you'll see that he's been misrepresented.

Fact of the matter is, dawkins has been offered 20k and he's dodging Comfort.

Are you kidding? Challenging the insane on their delusions is not only fruitless, it's a big ol' PIA. It's roughly equivalent to trying to convince a set of hyperactive three-year-old triplets that they want a bath and naptime.

Have you ever listened to Comfort speak? More than just the edited banana video?

He's actually a very learned man, and very well-spoken.

Seriously...I'm just curious why the atheist televangelist won't take on the challenge.

For those of you who don't know: One of comfort's big arguments for God having an active role in evolution is the banana. He makes the point that the banana fits in a primate's hand perfectly, it comes in it own wrapper, it has a pull-tab for easy opening, etc. Based on these features, Comfort states that this is clear evidence that God designed the banana for the implicit purpose of providing nourishment to primates/humans.

What Comfort doesn't realize in this argument is that the banana he is talking about and we are all familiar with is the product of 5000 years of artificial breeding/farming by HUMANS.

A wild banana is smaller, starchier, full of seeds and shaped more like a football. The good folks of Columbia and Costa Rica have had more to do with today's banana being the nutritious fruit for the human species more than God had ever initially designed (supposedly).

FAIL.
Not to mention that doesn't explain anything about the myriad other things primates eat-- like artichokes, oranges, or pigs (or occasionally, smaller primates).
I'm tellin' ya, if there really were a benevolent God, the South would be covered in barbecue trees.

Probably because he doesn't need to.

Yeah, I've heard him speak in other videos. And I've read his website. And the more words he spews, the more of a fool he sounds.

Maybe you should read what he wrote about it? Here's the link again, perhaps you'll follow it this time:

Have a link? Yes, I'm sure he doesn't sound nearly as stupid as the edited video makes it look

Roxolan posted a link describing why Dawkins is turning down Comfort's deal. You should read it before blithering on about Dawkins dodging Comfort.
