I really fail to see your point. Purpose can simply be defined as goals. Many have given their goals (or purpose, pick whichever one you prefer) in life and what they wish to accomplish. As for me, my goal is very simple:

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

-Mahatma Ghandi.

The only confusion I see hear is from you and the other christians who have chimed in. This is the A&A forum. You are hearing the points of view of A&A's. I am not aware of of anyone saying that they are confused about their purpose.

My "ultimate purpose" is to fulfill my own goals I create for myself. Basically there is no ultimate purpose except as a summation of all the "purposes" (personal goals) that drive what I do.

There is no one purpose in life other than what you decide to make it. Yeah, I guess that's pretty cliched and boring.

I suppose the standard answer would be to live a good life, have fun and don't be an a-hole. That and have a few kids in the process, so your awesomeness will continue on into future generations.

It can be something different for everyone, though.

I would hope it's to leave things a little better than when I got here, but I don't know. I brought two good kids into the world and I try to be a good friend to those I know and bring a little joy to peoples lives. So far that's the best purpose I have.

All other snarkiness aside, I think it all boils down to this:

The purpose of life is to live.

The best purpose of life is to live well.

What that actually entails is for each individual to ascertain for themselves.

I don't need a purpose. I love my family, enjoy friends, travel, have an good job I enjoy, surf, hike, explore, etc. Does it have a "cosmic" purpose? No. But so what.

I want to be proud of what I've become, to be loved by those whom I love, and admired, but not too much. My purpose is to live well, laugh much, and heal any hurt I've caused in my youth and ignorance.
