I agree with a great deal that was stated in the video but I really don't think we have an accurate percentage of atheists in many of the nations that were mentioned. I would think that polls would have to be conducted to come up with a figure and I can't imagine that many people who really were atheists in nations like Iran would even admit it for fear of retaliation. I've always suspected that there's a fairly large number of people, particularly in Muslim nations, who go through the motions of religious activity simply because they're afraid not to.

I agree. Many atheists in America are afraid to admit it (except on the internet). I wouldn't dare tell anyone I know. If I lived in any of those nations I really would never tell!

I am convinced that many of the US politicians are atheists - they just cannot admit it because it would be political suicide. Take for example, Hilary Clinton - she is simply too sharp an individual to believe in the "supreme being" nonsense. Obama too, it is all an act.

I wouldn't say that. There are many very intelligent individuals who simply park their rationality at the door when it comes to religion. It gets a free pass.

Things would get pretty bad
without what little stabilizing effect that atheism brings to discourse. We would have the theocracy that xians want and it would be a pretty sick place - with the bybul to provide our guidance.
That said, I would like to know where the conclusions, of what would happen to our society if atheists left, came from. Why would teen pregnancy increase? etc.

Well, in the video they said per capita for most of those statistics. So, I'm assuming they did research (or made the assumption) and found that atheists have less teen pregnancies than religious folks thus an increase per capita if all atheists left. Same with the other statistics.

If the liberal college profs, Dawkins, and the hollywood wingnuts took off, I'd be ok with it.
But I think it takes some liberties in suggesting that we'd become just like other countries. I don't believe most of the people that call themselves Christians are particularly devout.

The majority of colleges have nothing to do with being Liberal or conservative,
their mission, unless they are a theology institution, is to deal with learning and educating. By your standards, any college that promotes knowledge over superstition is liberal. I don't believe in ghosts, demons, unicorns or fairies.

Religion is something that I never discuss in person with family or friends...just like politics are never discussed either....those two topics can only lead to trouble when you have opposing viewpoints within the family. Families with the same viewpoints on everything would be fine though...however not mine:P So of course it would come out on the Internet as the only "outlet" to release your beliefs out there especially when forums here are set up to do so.
