I have certainly voted for more Democrats than Republicans, mostly because the Republicans are just a bit too cozy with the christers to suit me.
I am a practicing and devout atheist.

For the OP.

I am an atheist because I see no evidence for god in the world. The universe appears to work just fine without a god.

Additionally, all religions that I have seen/studied/heard about seem to have some very obvious problems, and never really address any of the hard questions.

So, to my point of view, there is no god, and no reason for one, and religion doesn't make any sense. Leading to my being an atheist.

As for the autobiographical data other people are providing.

I am very liberal in my political views.
I live in the northeast.
I do not hunt and fish, but don't mind if others do.
I have never been in the military, and have my reservations about it due to the interventionist foreign policy of the US.

The Bio’s seem to show a common thread among Atheists. Here is mine to add to a spread sheet.
I was raised in the South, and have worked and lived all over the planet. I hate to rub it in Dusty, but I did get a period working in Antarctica during my military life.

I was in the Military as were most of my generation, and like most I did not like it at the time. Today I recognize the maturity I depend on, and the acceptance of responsibility, was a lesson I learned in those hard times. It was a positive experience in a time when nobody wanted to be in the service, (late 60’s) and it just took time to recognize what I had learned.

My education is in chemistry and math at UNCW, and UNC, and it has opened doors at every turn of my life. It has also highlighted the importance of the continue need for education, thus keeping both my wife and I going back to grasp another layer of knowledge. It keeps the mind young even when the body slows down LOL.

I see my self as a moderate politically, but am sure most see me as left of center. I am an independent and don’t care much for the main stream parties.

In my younger years I did hunt ducks, and geese, but as I grew older my work consumed my time and I had rather spend what free time I have with my wife and family. The ducks and geese are happy about that also.

I have seen atheist are suppose to have goatees, and this year I do have one, but it may go next year due to the grey stripes instead of just grey. I may be a bit on the geek side, but it has not caused any problems, and my work environment is filled with people just like me.

I am also a strong Atheist, very active in the movement, and looking forward to retirement, when ever that comes, so I can devote more time to the cause.

I thought atheists were supposed to have the pointy type goatees and smoke a pipe.

Thx 4 the responses. I repped some of you for responding straight up, but see some atheists don't believe in a rep-back. That's fine.
