The catholic church is deeply, deeply disturbed. By not taking action, when it was known that this type of thing was happening, the church itself should be seriously penalized.
I am talking about more than fines. The bishops who were complicit in moving priests around the country to cover up their crimes should be jailed as well.
The church has lost any shred of moral authority that they might once have had.
Sadly, many people still support the church. Kind of like how many people support scientology.

very sad, the scars never go away, it only gets worse to have to live with the abuse as you get older...the vatican's actions are a slap in the face of every victim. the whole catholic church needs to be disbanded....how anyone can support that is beyond me. sure some priests are actually human beings but still, why don't they quit the firm already.......

Link says the story was reported in Feb 2009. Was there an update you meant to link?

Thank No One that atheist do not commit these horrendous acts on the most innocent in our society. Why must overly-impressed-with-themselves-for-being-atheists always point out the negatives associated with people of no religion (the non-believers or non-practitioners of the Catholic faith in this story)? It's irrelevant, you are obviously more intelligent, enlightened and much more educated then the ignorant people who sill believe in God.
Who are you trying to convince that your vacuous lives have any meaning at the end of the day? I guess the only way to fill that void is to campaign for Obama, ridicule the religious, and take solace in that your meaningless lives have no meaning.

rotten stuff. the level of distrust towards all white males no matter what profession is so high--- despite the fact that many pedophiles on the news of late have been women, the public suspicioin is 100% on white males. i was recently invited to work in the sunday school at church and i declined ---and i am not even white.

So you think the only way for a person to have "meaning" in one's life is to make that meaning God? I guess the only way for you to fill the void in your life is to ridicule atheists and grovel to a supernatural deity (which apparently allows children to be molested by men who claim to be his followers)?

Well, beam me up Scotty, but that was a snotty sounding bit of rubbish. It's been widespread news for a number of years that the Catholic church has tried to coverup a very large number of child molestations which has resulted in even more molestations because the offenders were simply moved from one place to another when they got caught. I may have missed some news reports but I don't recall reading anything about atheists conspiring to abuse children. I think the reason is very simple. Atheists tend to have a more realistic view of human sexuality and most of us realize that priests who are gay and have been indoctrinated by a religious dogma of guilt and shame are much more likely to commit immoral acts against innocent children when they are unable to deal with their own sexual orientation.

I supported McCain, because Obama was too far to the left for my tastes. Would you like to see a pic of my NRA life membership card?
Do you have any other generalizations you'd like me to stick a pin into?

The catholic church is particularly responsible because in addition to individuals molesting children, the organization as a whole worked to hide this fact, and simply moved the priests around so that they would not be found out, but could continue their crimes elsewhere.
I am sure that there are atheist child molesters somewhere. I am equally sure that there is no atheist organization supporting them and actively covering up their crimes.
