Default Isn't it funny that when I disagree with an atheist they immediately call me a Christian?

And that when I disagree with a Christian they call me an atheist.

Moderator cut: Ongoing references to last night's "Christer" debate will be deleted.

BTW how can you be insulted every time a Christians tells you that you’re going to hell for being an atheist?
Are you saying that you believe that hell exists?

Why?
Or do you believe that people should judge a book by its cover (or in this case 'soundbyte')?
Anywayz, I'm a self-proclaimed follower of the philosophy of Jesus, but I'm not a Christian.
Nor do I have the desire to convert others to my way of thinking.
And I really have no idea whether I’m a theist or an atheist, simply because it does not interest me.

Nope, I know your WV, but others do not. I was just stating why folk may be misguided, no need to change anything.

I think many atheists actually follow the jesus teachings better than the proponents of the religion he did not want to start.

Because a hindu wouldn't care if someone was atheist or not. *grin*

I'm not a Hindu either, but I guess you are?
But I do believe that only the Christians (and Muslims) want to convert the whole world to their religion.
It would be a sad day if atheism would join them.

^^ Atheism isn't a religion, you know that. I can't speak for all atheists, of course, but I think most atheists (in general, not just the ones on CD) just want to keep religion out of government and out of schools. I don't think most atheists care about their actual belief in a god. Or maybe that's just me....... *shrug*

I know but I believe that the trouble with Christianity started the moment it was 'elevated' to a state religion. With this I mean that the state (or the church leaders) decreed what was or was not the Word from God.
And I think that it is a bad idea to follow this example by making atheism the new 'state religion' where the top decrees what is or is not a fact.
I guess I have this fear because I see no difference between a philosophy and a religion.

well some hare krishnas were trying to get some to join them and cults do it..maybe with a different agenda but still, they use religion to lure people..
Some Christians have acted surprised more often than called me an Atheist when I told them I don't believe in any deity. It's only when I say I'm an Atheist that they either get away as quick as possible, try to convert me or say I'm a worthless piece of whatever..
they're mostly in shock at what I tell them about my nonbelief like " how dare you" or " how are you not afraid to say that"...such blasphemy stops them in their tracks. But I don't get into those type conversations unless someone actually starts about it, I don't ever start a conversation discussing religion.
If I'd disagree with an Atheist or vice versa, who then calls me a Christian...I'd shake my head and walk away because that makes no sence...
but I have no idea how you get into many of those religious discussions and why, it ends up a mess anyway most of the time....

That's easy, because I like discussing religion (or philosophy).
But unlike most Christians (and maybe some atheists?) I do not feel the urge to convert others to my way of thinking.
Or maybe it is because I don't care if people agree with me or not?
Nor do I place myself in the camp of theists or atheists.
But I like discussing religion with Christians because we often disagree.
I see no point in starting a discussion with people who I believe will agree with me.

true, there is no point in a discussion if everyone nods the whole time..I'm just not into discussing a lot of private things ...lived in the US many years and you stay away from politics, religion and sex there mostly..
