Default 21-year-old raises money for her own funeral

So, as i read this article, i wondered whether it would be better to allow someone in 'her' position know the truth about the fairytales of afterlife and God, or is it pointless to do so? i mean, what would she do with that information other than lose hope and peace?

i'm kind of torn between this...and wanted to know what you thought. on one hand, i would want to know the 'truth', however 'unsatisfying' may be...but on the other hand, if an imaginary/non existant God is keeping her at peace, isn't that worth something?

I think if she wanted to believe in fairies riding glitter farting pink unicorns and it made her feel more comfortable about her death that's perfectly alright with me.

I also have a potentially life threatening genetic disorder and think about my mortality pretty often. I've been on 'deaths bed' more than once and NEVER did I try to invoke a magical god to see me through it. I did have a few friends and family members that 'prayed' for me and said that it was a miracle when I left the hospital for the umpteeth time. Why couldn't they have prayed that I was never born with this affliction?! A little too late, I guess. It's 'gods work' and 'He has a reason', of course. Bullocks.

I say let her do her thing, however she wants, she's a brave girl

I say whatever makes her happy... let her believe it.

People process this kind of information differently. If it brings her comfort and peace knowing that she will be with her God and pain free then that is something for her to aspire to and I would have absolutely no desire to "set her straight" to my way of thinking.

Why bring the added burden of destroying what little joy she has by revealing the truth as we know it? To me that would be cruel and unusual punishment which would serve no good purpose other than to add to her suffering.

If someone is dying and in pain I'd support their belief in little pink fairies and unicorns if it eased their suffering in any way.

You are not thinking of posting a reply to that article, right? That would be very wrong to do and I hope this thought is not going through your head.

Let the girl believe whatever gets her through to her death. She needs all the strength she can get at this point and if her beliefs are helping her, then God bless her.

Oh, and I should add for the record I am an agnostic. I just feel very strongly that she needs to be left alone with her beliefs intact so she doesn't panic at the end. She is going through hell with an amazing amount of courage and dignity.

Love her heart, what a difficult road to walk. I feel for her and her family, and agree with others.. at this point she's pretty much earned the right to believe in unicorn riding fairies that fart glitter if it eased her pain even an ounce.

"Just days before Christmas, a young woman with muscular dystrophy is planning her own funeral, so she won't leave the burden behind for her family".
I wouldn't want to die and leave my family to pay for the funeral too.

It takes time for people to accept reality over religious faith, throwing this on her now will not serve any purpose but to cause her distress, she doesn't have enough time to come to terms with her real mortality.

If there truly is no God, an attempt to inform her of that would be cruel. As it is, she may be right, and could possibly be headed for an afterlife. Either way, this story sucks.
