That really depends on what type of Christians we're talking about here. If they're the live and let live type, I've no problem with them. If they're the you-need-Jesus-you-spawn-of-Satan-repent-now type....well....they can go to that place they're so afraid of for all I care.
Part of being a Christian is them sharing their beliefs with you, like the bible instructs Christians to do. Are atheists really that arrogant and childish that they can't handle that?
Spitting fire and brimstone and trying to "scare" you into believing what they do is not the way, but is sharing their belief in the love of God that much of a crime?

They can share all they want, just expect me to do some sharing of my own. Can the Christians handle it?
See most us atheist already know the fire and brimstone if you dont obey and worship god. See we are just not into forced love and the do or die approach just doesn't work for us.

You claim arrogance on the part of atheists while you are trying to sell them on your crock of BS called religion or gods.
If you were a friend, you would ask if they were interested in hearing your POV, and if they said no, you would immediately drop it and never broach the subject again.
Out of hand, I do not go out of my to offend. If a friend, coworker, frequent acquaintance brings up the subject, I merely tell them I have no use for religion. That is a clear enough message, and if they can't/won't accept that, or they are just too damn arrogant, I explain it in term they can then understand.
In any believer/non-believer debate, arrogance comes from the believer side of the table in most cases, in additional to being judgmental aspects of telling someone they have it wrong. Among friends, and as an atheist I NEVER bring up religion, or my beliefs, it is the self-righteous arrogant believers that want to stick their fairy tale in the faces of everyone else.

I didn't want this point to be overlooked so I'll express it as a solo thought.
Treat you religion like your genitals. Keep it private, never pull it out in public, force it on no one. And if you can't follow those guidelines, expect some rather harsh responses.
I was exchanging emails with a guy for about 2 wks. At the end of the 2wks it was clear this guy goes to church EVERY sunday AND EVERY wednesday. His teenagers go to Bible School EVERY Tues and Thursday.
I'm atheist. I ended that opportunity quickly.
I find most people CLAIM to be Christian, but then upon further examination, the only time they've been in a church is for weddings and funerals. Those are the ones you don't have to worry about preaching sessions.

They can share politely all they want. And if they really want to discuss religion I'll be glad to. I can do it politely as long as they can. The problem is, here in the south you can't hardly tell people you're an atheist and expect them to be polite. If it's a stranger I couldn't care less, but if it's someone I have to work with every day then it becomes an issue. Luckily most people around here would rather go on and on about their political beliefs than their religious beliefs.
I love persuing friendships with Christians as much as anyone else. However, I always worry that they will attempt to convert me. If it was just one time for each friend, I would have no worries at all. However those friends of mine who do attempt to convert me tend not to give up, and so I become forced to avoid them. I wish more of my Christian friends would respect my beliefs as I respect theirs. Most do, but more would always be better. I still do not hesitate to adopt friendships with Christians, even the most religously conservative. I do not believe being religous is a sign of weakness or ignorance, only a different view. We each have holes inside us which need to be filled, either by searching for truth, or other means. These holes are shaped, and I feel, only filled by certain things. Sometimes atheism fills someone's hole best. Sometimes agnosticism fills it best. Sometimes Christianity or paganism or the Flying Spaghetti Monster fills it best, but I think no one's belief is truly based on logic, although some people's holes may only be filled by logic, so they use logic to fill their holes.

I don't agree with the last part of your post, but you certainly are a nice person! I wish there were a lot more people like you.
