Politicians may be sleezy but not all of them are dumb and naiive...
Does it bother anyone else that they keep on saying God bless you and God bless america after every important speech?

surely, some of these people must be atheists....
if you're not gonna come out and say that you are, at least don't say something silly like god bless you! and god bless america!

just silly!

The nature of a politician is to appeal to the widest possible range of people as possible, to appear sincere, to appear caring, to appear knowledgeable, when they are in fact, none of these things.

Everything about a politician is designed to impress, not to be honest. Look at the way they dress, the way they speak, the way they move their hands, that very practiced smile. Every handshake is a lie, every nod a platitude. Nothing is real or honest. Why should their closing lines be any more sincere than the rest of their act?

Why anyone trusts these charlatans to get out of bed on the right side is beyond me.

Could you imagine if they didn't say it??

There would be a pitchfork/torch rally soon after.

why?

why do you assume that?

why wouldn't it be as civilized if they didn't say a meaningless phrase?

Did you not see the response when Obama included the non-religious in his acceptance speech?

Perhaps because the majority of our population are barely literate primitives who demand those meaningless phrases and in fact have been brainwashed into believing our country was founded on them.

He always does it. They all do. No open unbeliever will be elected to the Presidency in my lifetime.

It bothers the hell out of me, and I can remember when they didn't do it.

As religion has been less and less important for large segments of society, it seems that shows of religiosity have become more important.

From Pinky and the Brain, where the main character becomes a country singer and wins an award :

Brain : " Pardon my effervescence but your accolade is more than any bucolic mouse merits."
Presenters:: " What he sayin'? I don' know."
Brain : " I'd like to thank my momma and Elvis."
Presenters : "Oh how nice ... well isn't that nice"
