I was watching the Travel Channel today and they showed a place in Atlanta called The Varsity.

They sell hot dogs.............I am not a hot dog lover but I'd buy one from there.

The owner said they serve as many is 30,000 dogs a day.

Those dogs and fries looked good.

Is that place still around?

I think that everyone that's lived in Atlanta for any significant period of time has been to The Varsity. It's a true Atlanta landmark and now there are several more locations throughout the metro area (the original is the best, however). The chili and slaw dogs are great and the onion rings are my favorite anywhere. The buns are always soft and fresh. Gotta love it. I know some people that say it's too greasy, but I think that's part of its charm.

Fun story - when I was in the eighth grade, my middle school took the entire grade to the zoo on a field trip. We went to the Varsity for lunch - how many other places can you think of that can accomodate 400 school kids in addition to the regular lunch rush crowd?

I went on a school trip in the 10th grade, and I have no memory whatsoever of where the trip was (seriously - NO idea. Fernbank? The Cyclorama??). The only thing I remember is we went to the Varsity, afterwards, I had the greasiest fries I'd ever eaten, and we all got paper Varsity hats and walked around school with them on for the rest of the day. So cool.

I like the food at the Varsity and JR Crickets across the street. When I used to visit a friend at GA State, I always ended up eating one or the other.
