Default Union City, GA....

Straight forward question: What your feeling, experience, and thoughts of Union City. As a young married couple, with two very young children; and a dog.

I've never been there, so I can't comment meaningfully.

Out of curiosity, though: Why choose Union City?

Union City is so-so at best. There are pockets that are decent, but that would require a driving around so you can get a "feel" for different neighborhoods within Union City. If you are looking in the South Fulton area, I'd suggest Fairburn over Union City.

I agree. The housing is definately really affordable, and it's close to the city, but that's about all it really has going for it. The schools aren't great, and it isn't "charming" in any sense of the word. Fairburn has much nicer areas, and is just south of Union City.

If you can't get here to drive around, I have a suggestion. Go on to the realtor.com website, and start looking at homes. You'll get an idea of not only what the avg. income/socioeconomic state that area is in, but you can also scroll down and see how the local public schools are rated. You may not be interested in schools now, but some day you will be, whether it will be for your kids, or for your home's resale value.

i live close to union city (tyrone). it all depends on your expectations. my expectations are bias because of my income level. for the money, i would definitely choose fairburn over union city. south parts of fairburn are part of fayette county school zones.

Make that a 4th , who would choose Fairburn over Union City. Fairburn ,in my opinion, just has a nicer vibe to it altogether .

Fairburn is nicer hands-down. Since you have small children, I'm assuming that schools may or may not matter to you. The elementary schools in Fairburn are not that bad...it's the middle and high schools that are terrible. I've lived and taught in Fairburn for the past 7 years so I am very familiar with the area.

I am a resident of Union City, I am happy with the area I stay in. I have a friend that lives in Fairburn and she is happy with it as well. I live less than half a mile from the newer elementary school and the new fire department. I guess I picked a decent part of Union City to live in. Never had any issues. Good luck on your search.
