Gotta agree with JPD. To impress a true wine fan, you need to send something that they can't find at Publix or the local liquor store. Go to a site like winebid.com or wine.woot.com and find something unusual, but not necessarily outrageously expensive. No offense to anyone who likes it, but pretty much any GA wine will wind up stuck on a back shelf of their wine cellar and forgotten.
I'm going to have to disagree about the Georgia wines ending up on the back shelf. This place is really good Wolf Mountain Vineyards
If you just HAVE to ignore some of the nice wineries here in Georgia. We like this place in Sonoma, CA. Anaba - Sonoma County
I don't recall seeing any Georgia wines on any shelf in any Atlanta grocery or liquor stores. I'm not sure why that is. The ony time I see them is when I go to stores in North GA. The liqour store on the edge of Downtown Helen has the best selection that I know of.
I would call a local store in Georgia. I have a friend who is a huge wine fan and actually teaches classes. He said that he shops at Toco Hills Giant Wines. Ask for Anthony, who runs the wine shop.
love, love, LOVE sweetwater...When I was living in NC I would buy it at Harris Teeter all the time, even brought some home for my Chicago-ans to try
