I read this same article and was very appalled that Atlanta wasn't mentioned. Trust me, this article is VERY misleading. Traffic can be a nightmare here. Don't be nervous, just learn surface streets (back roads) or get a book on cd/cassette and ride it out! Ultimately, location has everything to do with how much traffic you deal with but it gets worse and worse everyday, ESPECIALLY with the influx of people moving here. Not trying to scare you, just giving the facts and view points from an Atlanta Native. Traffic congestion here has done nothing but got progressively worse.

I live in East Atlanta Village and leave for work around 8 or 8:30, usually is a pretty uneventful drive winding through the backroads so I don't have to sit on the interstate. I'd say 20 minutes to get to 14th and Peachtree where I work. (on a clear day ... it can be as long as 45 minutes when the retards are loose).

The really bad commute times seem to be from GA 400.

GA 400 in town or coming from Alpharetta? I have been looking for an apartment and a relocation assistant indicated that the traffic is only bad up until you hit I-285 E/W. Is this true?

Oh definitely worse coming from the North into town in the morning and reverse at night ... however it kinda sucks both ways. I lived up there with my sister for a short time when I moved back here form New England.

That being said, traffic sucks both ways pretty hard at peak hours.

From my condo complex in Vinings to the parking space at Georgia Tech, it takes me on average 17-18 minutes going there even during rush hour. Coming back, more like 20-23 minutes because of 10th Street traffic backups.

Some of the times others have posted seem weird. It's never taken me more than 10 minutes to get from Vinings to Midtown... you just drive down an empty stretch of I-75.... I-75 between Vinings and Kennesaw however is a nightmare, so if you live anywhere north of the 285/75 intersection be prepared for an annoying commute.
What time of the day do you commute at, and how close to I-75 do you live? These are the main determinants. Surface street traffic near on-ramps is absolutely horrible, so unless you live under a mile to an on-ramp and commute before 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM, I cannot see how this is even remotely possible.
