Default Moving to ATL soon. Need Help

Hi,

We'll be moving to Atlanta soon and would like to know our options which city is good to stay

1. Budget
- 800 -1000 rent per month
2. House/Condo/Townhome? - Apartment or Townhome
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) - commute.I work near ATL airport and my wife is looking for a new project.
4. Children(public school vs. private) - Toddler in Daycare
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two - suburban
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? - Yes. we have 1 car. so preferably close to Bus/Train station.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. - SAFE community preferably Indian.

Thanks,

Possibly search in the Smyrna/Marietta area>>>
Any Indian (South Asian) community in Marietta ?

Public transportation is limited in this area.

You'll have to make some choices.

Default @ TakeAhike - Thank you for quick response

Marietta would be little far for me considering I work near ATL Airport. I am thinking Dunwoody - Chamblee (hope i spelled them right) area because i see MARTA goes there.

You need to google a map of metro Atlanta. Dunwoody/Chamblee are located in NE Atlanta--the airport is SE. Yes, it would be possible to use MARTA from Chamblee/Dunwoody to travel to the airport--commuting by car 2X a day would be another story.

The Buford Highway corridor is ethnically diverse, primarily Hispanic and Asian.
I don't know of an Indian community in this area--possibly around Norcross--which is Gwinnett County and MARTA doesn't extend into Gwinnett.

Smyrna/Marietta, NW metro Atlanta, somewhat better for using a car to get to the airport. I75.

Thank you for your quick response. I am more inclined to using MARTA for work than car. I know Dunwoody/Chamblee are very far from my work but reading these forums I feel any place North Metro is safe. so looking for options. Thanks

Yes, NE Atlanta is pretty safe.

The area around Tilly Mill Rd might be an option--it's diverse--Doraville/Dunwoody--you would need to check the crime stats on particular subdivisions.

Duluth or Doraville?

Moving to Doraville or Chamblee- wanting to know some area specifics

Chamblee, GA - Locations

You might use these parks as a starting point to find appropriate housing in Chamblee. I believe Clairmont Park is located across from the Chamblee Library and there are some nice little houses for rent in this subdivision--older--40's/50's I'd say.
Sort of 'Brookhaven'---Ashford Park elementary is a good school. Find its attendance area and search for housing in this vicinity. Close to Chamblee and Brookhaven MARTA stations.

ETA: An apt complex in the Dunwoody/Perimeter area.

Is Decatur a safe community ?
I heard there are more companies in north (CNN, AT&T, Homedepot, UPS, Fedex, GE, etc). what are other major companies?
my wife is looking for a project in IT. I am thinking living around dunwoody may be good for her commute or it doesn't matter?

Decatur is kind of iffy. There are safe and unsafe parts of it.

You might also check out the other side of the airport. Fayetteville is booming and qualifies for everything you asked about except (a) Indian diversity (b) public transportation.

Since you are not looking into public school for your child, and you are both professionals --
Dunwoody (near Perimeter mall area) will probably work for you. You take the train to work (is your work close to airport MARTA?). Your wife can get to any Downtown/Midtown/Buckhead job by MARTA, and get to Cobb/Alpharetta job by car.

As Indian professionals, you should be fine in the Dunwoody/Perimeter area. Another option is to live close to Discover Mills mall (Gwinnett county). And take the GRTA bus to midtown, then MARTA to airport. The Asian population in Gwinnett county is significant, with some Indian population as well.
