I am disturbed by so many Christians' focus and fixation on pastors and Christian personalities. So many Christians exalt pastors snd Christian celebrities more than they exalt and talk about Jesus. Perhaps the biggest sin in the church today is idolatry of Christian celebrities and churchianity.

I agree That in and of itself is very disturbing. There is an element of truth to that statement unfortunately

Sadly, this is very true.

I don't believe in religion as a matter of philosophy, and I especially can't stand those who tell us how to behave and that they represent some higher power, and say one thing while doing something else. People who practice what they preach are misguided, but at least they're consistent and not hypocrites. The rest are both misguided and hypocrites.

The difference is that I don't believe that religion = morality, nor do I believe that you have to be religious to know right from wrong and to act accordingly. I don't need the man in the sky or the man in a church to tell me what to do or what is right and what is not. I have common sense and a brain, and parents who imparted that knowledge on me.

Of course people who are not religious can also be hypocrites on other levels and with regard to other things, but at least they are not telling you what to do, how you should act, and prescribing for you the path to be "saved" and to be considered moral, all the while doing contrary things in their own lives. Do as I say and not as I do seems to be a staple for many.

Interesting that many people seem more focused on the reputation of mega-churches than the impact on the young black men who were sexually abused.

I got one thing to say about it. Just like what Wendy Williams would say, "How he's doin?"

Hopefully the Long case will at least help bring an end to black church homophobia. It's sad to see Americans still using religion to beat each other up in the 21st Century. Here's an excellent article by Prof. Anthea Butler on the subject:
