Please dont paint a picture of the christian faith by a scandal or scandals. We are not about that. If you want to know about christianity consult the manual straight from our leader Jesus Christ.
His biography can be found in the 4 gospels written by Matthew Mark Luke and John. The book of acts is the book of conversions. That tells you about the start of the church. Then you have the epistles romans through jude those are the letter from the apostles to the church instructing us on how to live along with instruction on how we are to conduct the lords work. then you have revelation that confirms the return of the Christ.
If you want to develop an opinion on a group please base it off of fact not eddie long.
It's sad to see "Christians" so desperately grasping at straws trying to defend treating homosexuals differently.
"Well, Jesus never created a Gay Pride Parade float, nor did he ride on the back of someone else's Gay Pride Parade float on Jerusalem's Gay Pride Day, and in not doing so, he proves that he supports people condemning homosexuality"
Jesus didn't specifically address A LOT OF STUFF in the Old Testament. It doesn't mean he agreed with it. The whole point of him coming was so that we could have more rational, well-guided rules to live by.
This **** is especially sad in the black community, IMHO, because bible verses were used for centuries by plantation owners and slave traders to support the slave system. Except instead of dusting off old verses to condemn gays, they dusted off old verses that assured them that cruelly treating slaves was supported by God himself. The irony of it all is so overwhelming.
Your preachers at work (parody). Listen to what they're saying. Isn't this the truth? Too funny. Gotta love "In Living Color". These guys described these cons to the T.
The local Fox channel here in Atlanta just aired an interview with Jamal Parris within the hour. He's presently living in Colorado. And the interview took place in Colorado.
If Jamal Parris is put on a witness stand in court, it's all over. It's aaaaaaalllll ooooover!!!!! Jamal Parris is sincere, smart, and very verbal.
Not only that, everything he said was convincingly believable. His answers to the questions appeared to be unrehearsed which seemingly wasn't the case with Eddie Long. I got the distinct feeling Eddie Long had everything scripted.
There's not a doubt in my mind that these boys were sexually molested by Eddie Long.
I think the age of sexual consent should be revised. If two young people are sexually intimate, AND EQUALS, maybe 16-years-old is OK as the minimum of age of sexual consent. But I do think the age of 16 is too young if the other person is much older, and wields a lot of power and influence.
When Eddie Long is giving these boys lots of money, the dynamics here are morally reprehensible. Eddie Long is a sexual predator.
I'm more puzzled by folks who insist that a literal reading of the Bible gives them a playbook to condemn anything, be it shellfish or gays. There's an awful lot of picking and choosing going on there. If they claim the whole thing is the literal and absolute truth and that they can pick out one sentence to justify their point of view, then it seems pretty ridiculous to deny the rest of it.
For instance, the Bible says:
Colossians 3:22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
1 Timothy 6:1 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered.
Titus 2:9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them.
1 Peter 2:18 Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.
Yet you don't often hear folks going around insisting that the Bible says slaves need to be more obedient, hold their masters in high respect, and not talk back.
Nor do you hear many parents calling for the stoning of their children as taught in Deuteronomy. Why is this less popular than using the Bible to condemn gays?
Deuteronomy 21:18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death.
Then you’ve got that situation in Deuteronomy 22:25. If you come across a virgin out in the country and rape her and she’s already engaged, you die. But if she’s not engaged (and you get caught), you only have to pay her dad 50 shekels. Yet I can’t ever recall anybody insisting on this rule.
Deuteronomy 22:25: But if out in the country a man happens to meet a girl pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. Do nothing to the girl; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders his neighbor, for the man found the girl out in the country, and though the betrothed girl screamed, there was no one to rescue her.If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver.
So how is it that religious “rule enforcers” get to pick just the parts of the Bible they want to use but blow off the rest?
When they do that, it’s pretty hard to put much stock in their condemnations. That’s no more than a personal pick-and-choosathon.
Funny isn't it! It's all so hypocritical.
Reminds me of a scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian - Listening to a preacher but far back in the crowd Spectator 1: What did he say? Spectator 2: I think it was "Blessed are the cheesemakers". Mrs. Gregory: Aha, what's so special about the cheesemakers? Gregory: Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.

Well there is such a thing as context. If you know anything about Biblical doctrine you know the there is and old the testament law which no longer applies to believers since Jesus paid the price for all sin.
You seem to be hung up on the word slave. In most translations the word used in those passages is servants. But even in the case of literal slave, the literal meaning still applies which is simply to do your best in whatever you do because your ultimate Master is God.

You've watched that video and/or read the article and you can still refer to that perverted predator as Bishop?
Surely you jest..
