We will be moving to ther ATL area and are look for a community either with a golf course in it or one very close to it. We would like to live either north or northeast of the perimeter. Any suggestions? Thanks!

How much do you want to spend? St Ivies, Country club of South, Sugarloaf CC are some of top golf communities in Duluth/Johns Creek area.

Peachtree city, although nice, is not "North or Northeast side of Perimeter".

By the way, you won't able to buy anything in St Ivies, Sugarloaf CC or CCOS at 500K. There are several houses in St Ivies at high 500s and low 600s. Sugarloaf CCC and CCOS are even more costly.

Northeast of the perimeter the Johns Creek/Duluth ones listed above some of the best. There are tons of homes available in Sugerloaf but they usually $1-3 million though. St. Ives is a little cheaper, but even $600k is pushing it there. In Country Club of the South you may find one or two homes just above $500k, but most are in the millions.

North of the Perimeter the best is Atlanta Country Club in East Cobb. However being on the Chattahoochee River in the Walton school district this is one of the most sought after locations in Atlanta and no one is selling here. I think the few homes on sale are like $1 to $3 million unfortunately, though I think a few of the smaller houses might be going for around $800k.

300k-500k isn't going to go very far north/northeast as far as golf communities go, especially in East Cobb or Johns Creek. Farther north there are lots of country clubs in Alpharetta, Milton, and South Forsyth but they are also expensive.

About St. Ives: how is traffic around there (just to get local things done--shopping, etc.)? What is the social makeup of St. Ives.? (Also, is St. Marlo about the same in terms of traffic and people? ) Thanks in advance; I truly appreciate any advice.

St Ives is next to the Medlock Bridge road. It is close to many medical facilities, publix, Whole's Food store. So it is pretty convenient to most shopping areas. Northview High is just on the north of St Ivies. Traffic can be bad in the rush hours or lunch hours since Medlock Bridge road is two lanes road and Johns Creeks is very popular area.

St. Marlo is north of St Ives. It is very new developing area. I think that the traffic over there even worse. I haven't been there for a while, but Forsyth county used to have many single lane road.
