The Sheraton is a nice hotel, but in a real dead zone - particularly at night.

The Hotel Indigo would be perfect, imo.

Yep...and Hotel Meliá Atlanta opens October 15!

For what it's worth there is a pretty strong police presence on Peachtree Street @ Pine. There is a police kiosk about 100' down pine that is usually manned, and the parking lot on the west side of the street is filled with police vehicles.

But that corner really is the pits. And I don't think it's quite as well known, but the Mayor's Park, which is right on the south side of the downtown connector of the east side of peachtree street, is often full of sleeping vagrants. I've walked through the area numerous times around midnight and that's usually more unnerving than Peachtree/Pine. Easily one of the worst/most pointless parks in the entire city. My suggestion is simply to walk on the west side of Peachtree Street (across the street from the tavern) and you'll avoid most of the nonsense. It's not really dangerous, since there are so many people and cars around, just a bit intimidating if you get approached.

I'd frankly be more concerned about the two-block walk down International that you have to go down to get to the Sheraton.

Also, just priceline a hotel in Midtown. $90 is an okay deal for Atlanta, but not great. People bid for the Hotel Midtown--a less nice hotel in a much nicer area, with nightlife--and win it for like $45 all the time. Go to www.biddingfortravel.com for more info on how to do this.

Hotel Indigo is also far better than the Sheraton, also. Midtown is a much more youthful, friendly environment than downtown.

Indigo is a nice place. Used to walk those streets every night. I used to buy heroin at the apartment complex at 3rd and Peachtree for a good while, however that man is in federal prison. There are some rough characters there at night, but they are greatly outnumbered by several dozen people going to the Fox, to restaurants, and other nighttime destinations. You won't have any problems, especially with a large group before midnight or so.
