The next film in the "X-Men" series has announced plans to shoot in Savannah.

The Savannah Film Festival, coming up Oct. 30-Nov. 6, will honor Sir Ian McKellen, Liam Neeson and Isabella Rossellini (who gave the commencement address at SCAD's graduation last spring)

Among the top professionals hosting panels at the 2010 festival:
  • The dialog, sound and film editors behind ABC’s hit series, “Lost;”
  • Michael Lembeck, the Emmy Award-winning director of “Friends” and the feature films “The In-Laws” and “The Santa Clause 2;”
  • Denise Cramsey, the seven-time Emmy Award-nominated producer of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and “Trading Spaces;”
  • Carson Kressley, the fashion expert on Bravo's “***** Eye for the Straight Guy” and the host of 'How to Look Good Naked' and “True Beauty;”
  • Barry Rosenbush, the Emmy Award-winning producer of the “High School Musical” series;
  • Lev Spiro, the director of “Weeds,” “Ugly Betty” and “Everybody Hates Chris.”

For one thing, Detroit is on water. For another, though both Atlanta and Detroit are roughly the same size in area (132.4 sq mi Atlanta, 143 sq mi Detroit) approximately 60 square miles -- nearly half -- of Detroit proper is nothing but abandoned, uninhabited urban wasteland. There is nothing in Atlanta that even comes close to the industrial disaster that is Detroit:

Perfect spot to film another "I am Legend movie". That place looks deserted. They should just raze the whole place down and call it a day.

Vampire diaries is filming this week at the old candler mansion at the Emory briarcliff campus. I park there, and Friday when we got off work, we all had notes on our cars telling us to use the rear H lot this week because the production crew needs ours.

True, but I think the people of atlanta would make better extras for the sequel. They wouldn't require as much makeup and special effects.

Hey, we're not the ones that look like zombies. Talk about embarrassing.

For south GA movie news; there is a film underway called "eye of the hurricane" in st. marys. It has one actor that I recognize (campbell scott); so probably not the next blockbuster.

and 20th century fox is working on something for another x-men movie in brunswick.

atlanta is just flat out low density when it comes to being a city. no wonder we drive everywhere...
It’s no secret Detroit boom in a time when development was a lot denser, actually central Atlanta is development dense enough. In fact that how they’re pulling off Atlanta as Detroit for that show. But it’s the far south, southwest and most of Buckhead that‘s not dense. I was looking on Google earth and notice there’s actually a lot of undeveloped space in the southwest and westside of the city. That could add like another 200,000 people and that's with large home lot developments. But since the city is only devolving dense subdivisions now may be like 300,000. At first I couldn’t picture Atlanta growing to be 1 million, I was thinking the city can grow a little denser with redevelopment but now I notice there’s a lot area to infill Atlanta don’t even have to annex. But as you said Detroit is built up for 2 million but only 900,000 live there, they’re actually knocking down development. By Detroit population going down and Atlanta going up Atlanta could pass Detroit in around about 30 years.

But anyways isn’t Detroit a hot spot for film? Why is a show about Detroit being shot in Atlanta?
