Of course, anything as far as Sharpsburg or Newnan or Peachtree City fulfills, but I was only talking about the main metro area, which these areas (even Peachtree City) don't really fall into, there's a noticeable gap in the sprawl between south metro Atlanta and Peachtree City. Whereas on the north side there is absolutely no gap at all from Downtown Atlanta all the way up to Milton/South Forsyth/Acworth/South Cherokee.

If you look at a metro area map, Peachtree City, in western Fayette County, is no farther from downtown Atlanta than Alpharetta is and is actually closer than Acworth, South Forsyth or South Cherokee - and that's not even considering traffic. That's the problem with a lot of north side residents. To them, there's nothing south of I-20 but the airport.
If I read the poster correctly, her husband's office is on the south side of
Atlanta. The traffic on the north side is 10 times worse than the south side, yet the amenities are just as good (if not better). Like outdoor activites? There are three lakes in Fayette County with public docks and the Cannongate golf clubs are located (and headquartered) here, providing access to dozens of golf courses in metro Atlanta. Like music and performing arts? There are two amphitheaters both with summer concert series in Fayette and a private, for-profit theater in Tyrone. Like shopping? Fayette and Coweta have more retail space per person than any other metro county. Have kids? Fayette County is known for its youth sports leagues, whether its soccer, tennis, golf, baseball or any myriad of other sports. We also have an amazing library system that offers great programs for kids, including story hours for the little ones. The Fayette County school system is annually ranked the best in the state. In fact, the only private schools here are religious based schools - showing in itself how good the public system is.
And I haven't even mentioned the awesomeness of the 90 miles of golf cart paths through the city. PTC was eco-friendly 40 years before the word existed. I can get anywhere I want to go in the city on my golf cart and I don't have to pay for gas.
One respondent (perhaps the same one I quoted) stated that the north side was built out so you don't have to worry about new development. I was up on the north side last week, and there's still plenty of development going on, though he's right about it being "built out". If your idea of living is to have to wait through three cycles of the traffic light, then by all means, look at the north side. Peachtree City, Tyrone and the west side of Fayetteville are all great places that will meet all of your needs. Additionally, eastern Coweta county and Sharpsburg are great places. A great website to look at for information in Fayette County is their development authority's site:
Fayette County Development Authority. Coweta's is
Coweta County Development Authority, Coweta County Georgia. Both have info on schools, housing and quality of life.
The bottom line is that there are far more people on the north side than there are on the south side, and that's not a bad thing at all. I'm actually glad that more people don't know about the best place to live in Atlanta. I'm fine to let them go on believing that they've found their own Shangri-la up there. I've lived in both, so I know better.
