Yes, I forgot to mention, apart from trees, north metro Atlanta has a lot of... cars.
It's not really extremely densely populated (around 1000 to 2000 per square mile depending on where you are, which isn't bad) on the north side, but it is completely overflowing with cars. North metro Atlanta is a suburban family area so every family has like 3 cars at least that are all in constant use, and NO ONE uses public transportation and no one car pools, so traffic is certainly worse than the south side.
Mostly during rush hour though, in non rush hour you can get to most places quickly. And it's certainly not southern california level traffic, even in rush hour.

Narrowing down...
Okay, THANKS for all the input; after reading LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of posts, I think we have narrowed it down to Sharpsburg, Fayetteville, Tyrone and possibly still PTC, though now I'm not sure that it will be as affordable for us as the other areas. Hopefully we can make a trip up in the next couple of weeks to check them out. If anyone still has any info/opinions they want to add regarding those communities I'd love to hear more...anything and everything helps!!! I think I feel that we're not going into this move as blindly as before.

If you go for Fayetteville I would stay closer to Peachtree City than Clayton County...

Yes, good advice! (the more west in Fayette County the better!)- Or go extremely south in Fayette! I have heard great things about Brooks in Fayette!

What about Tyrone??? I haven't heard many people speak up about it. I had one very positive post about that area so that will be one of the first places we plan to visit.

Tyrone is pretty nice; it's a nice, small, quiet town still very much close to Fayetteville, Peachtree City, and Fairburn. I haven't heard too many bad things about it, so if you want to go on hear-say alone, I'd say it wouldn't hurt to look at Tyrone. It's a reasonable distance from the airport, major interstate 85, and downtown. I used to go to Tyrone all the time when I lived in Fairburn since it's so close. Tyrone is still considered Fayette County. You may also want to look in Sharpsburg, Georgia, it is becoming a well respected area on the southside as well not too far from Tyrone. Sharpsburg is in Coweta, County.

Well that's your opinion and it's good that people have differing opinions on this board, however I have plenty of experience in Fayetteville and stick by my opinion, Fayetteville in Clayton County is not as bad as Riverdale yes and it's fine if you already live there, but for someone planning on moving to the area I simply can't recommend it when there are better alternatives nearby with no downsides and several advantages such as better schools in Fayette County.

Narrowing down...
Okay, THANKS for all the input; after reading LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of posts, I think we have narrowed it down to Sharpsburg, Fayetteville, Tyrone and possibly still PTC, though now I'm not sure that it will be as affordable for us as the other areas. Hopefully we can make a trip up in the next couple of weeks to check them out. If anyone still has any info/opinions they want to add regarding those communities I'd love to hear more...anything and everything helps!!! I think I feel that we're not going into this move as blindly as before.

What about Tyrone??? I haven't heard many people speak up about it. I had one very positive post about that area so that will be one of the first places we plan to visit.
