My family and I are relocating from Miami, florida to Georgia and need some help on where to live. I have a 15 year old that will be attending high school so this is a big concern & we cannot afford private schools. I will be working in Buckhead and I am very worried about the commute. What area would you suggest we live in that will offer a good public high school and relatively quick commute? Someone suggested I look in East Roswell or East Cobb and possibly Smyrna. Since we are so unfamiliar with the areas we will be renting a home or condo initially.

Pope or Walton School Districts in East Cobb. Depending on where in Buckhead you are working, you can take GA400.

Is your child a good student, very bright and motivated? Or is more interested in a technical path?

What is your price range for a house? Given that it is high school, and many systems require you live in the district, you really need to rent in a district you can afford to buy in. Otherwise, your child will have to make another move during high school and that isn't good.

With this information we can give you better advice.

I moved to Douglasville when I worked in Buckhead - it is a 20 min commute.

Wow, how do you manage to do that? I would definitely like to know! From where in Douglasville to where in Buckhead? I didn't think a 20 minute commute from Douglasville to Buckhead was possible!

I'd look in Smyrna or Mabelton. Both have a great back way to Buckhead. 20-30 minutes, max.

I have to disagree. They can't afford private school...and the high schools that serve that area aren't too hot.

to the OP...define relatively quick commute

PS: Welcome to Atlanta...I'm originally from Miami

My daughter is a good student. She is in advanced academics, takes additional courses on-line, and starts AP courses this year. Since we are thinking about initially renting or doing a lease with an option to buy, we would like to stay in the $2300 mark. I don't think I will be able to handle the 2 hour commutes into Buckhead that so many ppl are warning me about.
