Why Peachtree Center, Five Points seems like the ideal location.

It's like that in NYC. I always liked walking in those tunnels to get to another train station

Ask a Georgia developer what he wants the first thing to come to mind is build a target, publix, and staples.

I have mixed feelings about all this. On the one hand, it makes a lot more sense for commuter rail to just terminate at an existing end-of-the-line MARTA stop whenever possible; no need for redundant infrastructure. For high speed rail, it makes more sense to have it come to the center of town.

Then again, train stations are often a drag on their respective neighborhoods. Hamburg, Nice, Milan, Oslo--the list of cities where the shabby part of town is centered on the train station goes on and on. They tend to attract beggars, addicts, and drunks, and are surrounded by cheap hotels and fast food joints (on a good day).

On the other hand I think there's a better chance the station remains very underused so this effect is minimized anyways.

It would make better to be connected to Five Points & Omni Station. The transit hub is supposed to be between those stations.

Publix, Staples & Target are fine if they are near rail.

Tunnels are cool, but thanks to our mild climate and uncrowded sidewalks, we don't really need them.
