Groceries, dinners, and movies are pretty much the same throughout the country. We got a 2bedroom 2 bath apartmet in buckhead for 800.00 a month.

I see. Can you tell me how much studios of around 500sq ft. go for in Buckhead?

Anywhere from $700-$1400 depending on the type of place you're looking at.

And movies are a few bucks cheaper than in NYC...also there are matinee prices here, something NYC seemed to get rid of! But you'll pay the same for the popcorn.

There are plenty of Krogers and Publixes in Atlanta, especially Midtown and Buckhead, so groceries are normal chain-store prices.

Movie tickets in Atlanta city limits tend to be around 10 or 11 dollars, and most theaters have student and elderly discounts.

Dinners tend to be around 10 bucks for the average restaurant (not too fancy, but not fast food either).

The only real difference between Atlanta and the suburbs is that movie ticket prices are higher, but you won't get screwed on groceries and dinners.

You just missed out on 15 years of the cheapest gas in the country.

Auto insurance is also cheaper.
Outside of Atlanta, there are no emissions laws so you don't even have to register your car or get it inspected.

Movie prices: Movie Tickets & Theater Showtimes - Fandango

There also is a great IMAX movie theater that shows regular and made-for IMAX movies.

I've had the luxury of seeing all of the Matrix and Lord of the Rings movies in IMAX.

For utilities, it depends on who the provider is.

About the IMAX theater at Mall of Georgia, the seats are extremely uncomfortable and don't recline, and the screen is so huge you have to crane your neck or sit weirdly to try to comfortably see the whole screen... it's really annoying.

Go watch a movie at Atlantic Station and then the IMAX at Mall of GA... the comfort level is night and day. Of course, the huge screen IS cool....

To give you some perspective, there are no stadium seating movie theaters in Austin, Texas, no reclining seats in 7 theaters close to us, and the IMAX theater rarely show regular movies outside of Space, the Final Frontier (Blahh).

Agreed on the non-reclining chair...trying slouching...

The huge screen coupled with the loud, booming sound system is how movies should be watched.

Yeah the IMAX is very cool for movies, however it's not as if regular theaters are bad when it comes to the screen and sound. The bigger screens in Atlantic Station are almost as big as the IMAX screen, and you don't have to crane your neck because the room is much bigger and the seats are more spread out.

And yeah, that's what I do whenever I go to the IMAX at Mall of GA: slouch. During the movie it works well, the only bad part is getting back up after the movie's over...
