Hi,

I need to relocate as my office is relocating to alpharetta.
I am unable to decide on a good area/communities to live in.
found some nicely priced communities in roswell but they were rated very poorly. also read about higher crime rate. The good ones are all $1000+. Found alpharetta costlier. Dont wish to travel more than 15 mins everday so did not consider Dunwoody/Sandy springs.

Please suggest

1. Budget <= $1000
2. House/Condo/Townhome? 2 bed 2bath - Appartment
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) - commute
4. Children(public school vs. private) - NA
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two - Mix
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? - Would be a big plus if there is easy access to MARTA, but atleast easy access to GA400. Also
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. - safe

Roswell can be hit or miss. There are definitely some parts of Roswell you would want to avoid even going through much less living in. In Alpharetta those parts would be very small if not non existent. Both have mass transit(even though MARTA is downsizing) Alpharetta is about 1-2 exits further north(away) of atlanta. Traffic can be horrendous but if you live in Alpharetta you would be on back roads instead of GA.400 so it wouldn't be quite as bad. Both cities are suburban, although they do have the old 'downtown' areas(which are quite small)
Hope this helps... This is my first post.

Roswell probably has more apartments that are within your price range, however, you MIGHT get lucky on a foreclosure that would work for you? Think Condo or Townhome. Look closer to 400 between Mansell and perhaps Webb Bridge. The closer to Mansell, the easier the commute to the perimeter but, the more risk of crime.

It's fine to save $100 on the house but if your car is getting broken into??? What's that worth......always go for the area at least 3 miles from the "fringe". To be sure, Roswell and Alpharetta overall are quite safe and in good shape. You are just going to find more of an "element" the closer you get to the river.....

And before anyone goes bonkers here defending their piece of turf. Read this! Roll around this all you skppy defenders out there and THEN weigh in...otherwise....shadddddyup.....

Default ROSWELL is Better!!!

Roswell has a community feel with lots of historic preservations, hip downtown with quaint shops & bistros, higher education per capita, and incredibly organized municipal government services... their Parks & Recreation programs, Library, their parks, etc. are unparallel in the North Fulton area. If you drive around, you'll get the 'feel' of the nostalgia of Roswell which is totally absent in Alpharetta - which doesn't have any "character". As other bloggers mentioned, there's also a plethora of choices in housing types, price ranges and access. Just check out their website and be impressed with the fashion in which they run their municipal government which can't be said the same for Alpharetta which is totally runs like a 'good ol' boy(girl)' machine of yesterday years.
