In his shoes, I would do it. Wouldn't you?

I would. An easy way to clear the air, with no downside.

The recent election makes me wonder if Georgia is losing its progressive reputation. These charts have been making the rounds in email and I don't know who made them, but is this how our state is perceived?

I don't think that Georgia is suffering any more in reputation than any other state south of the Mason-Dixon line. America as a whole has been taking quite a pounding on the international scene reputation-wise because of our profligate ways, both foreign & domestic, and both political parties bear the blame.

I just hate to think of as symbolized by "Deliverance" and "Dukes of Hazzard," but maybe that's the way it is. John Schneider was a local boy and Cooter was our Congressman until Newt took over.

Actually, I think that Gingrich represented the Sixth District, 'Cooter' (Ben Jones) the Fourth.

Right, but I was thinking Jones was defeated by Newt. Did he change districts or something?

What do you think it is about Georgia that it hasn't turned "blue" that places like Oregon and Minnesota don't have? Those states are blue and have been for a long time.

I don't see what's "muddled" about the POTUS's personal history. If people feel that only persons born in long-established states, whose parents didn't split up or take them to live abroad for a period, are eligible to be POTUS, then they should campaign to change the law to that effect, I guess. However, some of Obama's background characteristics that people seem to consider questionable have been true of previous presidents and presidential candidates, and that didn't seem to bother anybody.

Do you think if John McCain had won in 2008, there would have been a hue and cry over his not having been born in the USA? It seems very unlikely. It seems hard to avoid the inference that all the fuss about Obama's birth certificate is inspired by underlying racism.
Another thing to consider:John McCain was actually born in the CZ of Panama. Obama was born in Hawaii, a US state. In reality, CZ is more foreign territory than Panama.
