Henry County Georgia
Hello,
Is there anyone who can give me their personal insight on Henry County GA.
My husband, children and I are looking to move there from New Jersey and would love some personal thoughts.
Thank you:

Interested In Henry County Info Too!
My husband, 2 children and I; have decided to sell our home in New York and make that move! The only thing that scares us is the employment situation. We are leaving very good salaries and coming to Georgia with one of us having a degree in Social Work and the other many years of experience in train operation and computers. Can anyone in Georgia give us the employment outlook ? and How's living in Henry County?

Myself, wife and two children moved here in 2004 from Louisville, KY. We like it. We have good neighbors, nice home, good schools. The schools are good, but some better than others. We found East Lake Elementary and Union Grove Middle and High schools to be the best in the county. Henry County has another Elementary school opening in Jan 07. You can go to greatschools.net to compare for yourself.
A good search for homes is atlantamls.com. You can search by school or subdivision. I would suggest researching the subdivision and builder of any home you buy. There were recent issues with septic systems and poor building practices in a couple of the subdivisions. The county increased the quality of inspections prior to permit issue and during construction. We bought a new home on an acre lot and are happy. I noticed that the homes on the 3/4 + lots have a better class of neighbors. The Better Business Bureau isn't that good of a source for determining builder quality. They don't list a builder as having a complaint against them unless the builder doesn't respond at all. The realtor isn't a good source either since they want your $ in their pocket. I would recommend the realtor we used to buy our home, but she is working for a builder in a sub division now and not the Broker where she was. She could recommend someone good if you want her to contact you.
Traffic takes about 30-45 minutes to Atlanta depending upon your route and where you are going in Atlanta. It used to take me 45-75 minutes but I changed my route.
My job brought us here, so I can't speak for the job market. Good Luck

My advice to you would consist of finding employment first before going to Georgia. The job market is healthy BUT it is highly competitive for certain industries. There are many places to research jobs in greater atlanta metro area. One place online is AJCJOBS.COM, Monster.com, careerbuilder.com, etc
I am not sure what your household income is but expect for some decrease in pay depending on your career path. The Southern areas of the U.S. pay lower for some careers others are averagely compared. Do not let this discourage you. Good Luck!

I just took a look at the Atlanta MLS (thanks Mbretl) and saw some nice places in Stockbridge for a reasonable price.
Now, someone once suggested that the best resale values are in north and northeast Atlanta suburbs. So I'm wondering if Henry County suburbs are almost as good of an investment.

Henry county
My family and I are moving from Virginia. I've narrowed down the choices to Fayette County or Henry County. What have you found out about Henry County

We're also looking relocating (from FL) and seeking a place in Henry Co. Preferable Stockbridge, McDonough, or Locust Grove. We're working with a realtor - who is a long-time family friend - and she mentioned that these three areas in particular, are seeing a huge boom (and are expected not only to grow population wise, but also in schools and jobs).
I asked her about East Lake Elementary and she agreed that it is an "excellent, excellent school". That's great to hear, not just from a realtor, but also from someone that lives in that area (thanks, Mbretl!)
So, it looks like we will narrow our search to areas within that school's district.
