Anyone have any good suggestions for a day trip? I want to fly out of ATL and return the same day. I've done Washington DC and the Mall of America in Minneapolis- I'm looking for ideas/destinations that you would recommend.

Any of my airline friends?

If the cold isn't problematic then you can't beat Manhattan during the holiday season if you're not talking right away. Anytime after Thanksgiving would do.

I second KevK's suggestion of Orlando or Chicago.

Lot's of things to do in a quick out and back trip.

NOLA and Baltimore work too, especially for some yummy food!

We've done NYC- Macy's TG Day Parade and another time for an overnite Birthday celebration/Shopping marathon
Palm Beach/West Palm Beach/Boca Raton- Worth Ave. and Mizner Park, another shopping marathon.
I was the schlepper.
Back in the bachelor days during Baseball season- went to Chicago and St. Louis for Braves games.

Those aren't exactly "day trips" from ATL-
But with the right "vehicle" I guess they could be from the International Spacestation!

Since it's a given that you'll have say 3 hours tied up in each leg of the trip (getting to airport, getting through TSA, flying) IMHO a flying day trip does not make much sense, for a "fistful of dollars more" you could spend the night at your destination. The day trips are do-able of course, but I'm not fond of "recreation" that leaves me more tired at the end of it than when I started (not physically tired of course, but just more frazzled)
